Caerlaverock Green

Caerlaverock Green is a peaceful community green space set within the grounds of Hutton Hall in Bankend. Once the village bowling green, the area had fallen into disrepair but is now being brought back to life as an attractive and welcoming space for the community to enjoy.

At the heart of the Green is the idea of bringing people together. It provides a place where members of the community can garden together, share ideas and skills, meet up with friends and neighbours, or simply find a quiet spot to sit and relax.

The Green is also being developed with wildlife in mind, with planting and habitats designed to encourage birds, insects and other local wildlife and help create a more diverse and natural environment. We even have a trailcam to capture the action!

Caerlaverock Green is managed by a sub-committee of Hutton Hall and cared for with the help of local volunteers, who give their time to maintain and improve the space.

It also provides a lovely outdoor setting for events at Hutton Hall, including weddings and other celebrations — Scottish weather permitting, of course!

Like any garden, Caerlaverock Green is constantly growing and evolving. You can follow our progress, see the latest updates and keep up with what’s happening on the Green’s Facebook page.

If you’d like to get involved, whether by helping with the gardening, lending a hand with ongoing projects or simply sharing your ideas, we’d love to hear from you. No gardening experience is needed — just a willingness to get stuck in!

Funding and Support

The continued development and maintenance of Caerlaverock Green would not be possible without the generous support of local organisations and funders.

The committee would like to thank the following organisations for their support:

  • Hutton Hall
  • Caerlaverock Community Association
  • Dumfries and Galloway Council

Their contributions help us to maintain and improve the Green and ensure it remains an attractive and welcoming space for the local community to enjoy.
